Coming through Terminal 1 at the airport recently I noticed a sign which read “Natural intelligence is always better than artificial intelligence.” Most of us would agree with this statement. However many are telling us that we are on the edge of a revolution that will rival the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries. It will have a greater impact than the Cultural Revolution that began in the 1960’s. Almost every day I hear something about artificial intelligence (AI). We are being told it is going to change every aspect of our society: the way we work, play and even worship. A Silicon Valley engineer recently started the first AI religion. He calls it the divine AI and claims we may all come to the realization, acceptance and worship of a godhead based on artificial intelligence. He states, “If there is something a billion times smarter than the smartest human, what else are you going to call it?”
There is only one problem. With all of the talk about natural intelligence and artificial intelligence, is anyone considering the reality of a Divine Intelligence? According to the Biblical record, one of the greatest sins committed by Israel on their wilderness journey was to limit the God of their deliverance. Psalm 78:41 states, “Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel”.
The Bible presents us with a Divine Being of unlimited intelligence, power and ability. His being and His attributes of holiness, righteousness and love are all uncreated and eternal. Why would anyone reject such a Being for something of his own creation? Furthermore, God deigned to become a man and walk amongst us in the flesh, perfect, holy and undefiled. Jesus Christ submitted to the death of the cross in order to pay the price for our sin and rebellion against Him. Why does humanity spurn such love and compassion fully displayed at Calvary?
We must go right back to the beginning of time to find the answer. When Satan tempted Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, his deceptive lie was that God was withholding something from them. “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil” Genesis 3:5. Satan has certainly become more sophisticated in his deception through the centuries. Now he is tempting man to create his own god, a reflection of himself, through AI. This god will never hold us accountable for our sin. It will not be a god of holiness or righteousness, but a god who will nevertheless seek to control lives (Revelation 13). Our message is that the true God of the Bible is the real God.
We invite you to visit the Brampton Gospel Hall and hear more about what is eternal and real as opposed to that which is artificial and temporary.
